Triton: An Overview Of Our Managed Futures/Accounts Process
At Triton, we believe that it is essential to understand that every client has a distinctive set of investment needs, goals, and expectations, before working with them for their managed accounts needs. So, we use a three-prong cycled approach to build a working relationship, and to help find solutions that best suit each client’s financial and investment goals and objectives:
- Education and Feedback
- Portfolio Analysis and Design
- Monitor and Review
Educating our clients on managed futures, so they are able to better grasp the asset class, is an integral part of the cycle. When clients have a basic understanding of the program, we can reach a mutual understanding of their goals, needs, and expectations for investing. We can also work with our clients to help define their investment criteria, for example, which commodity investments and hedge fund investments interest them the most and why, or, which type of hedge fund managers would they like to work with, etc.
We discuss possible managers, including hedge fund managers, with our clients to elicit responses; this helps us to develop a successful managed futures portfolio. Whether a client is a first-time investor, is adding managed futures to an established portfolio, or is an experienced investor with current managed futures investments, we feel it is important to develop a strategy based on the client’s entire investment portfolio, which allows us to help them meet their needs and goals.
When a managed futures portfolio has been developed and approved, we guide the client through the managed accounts opening process, and we help them complete the paperwork, and facilitate the transfer of funds.
The key elements of successful portfolio management are tracking and monitoring. When managed accounts are opened and trading begins, we monitor manager and account activity daily. We also provide an on-going analysis of the performance of all managers in the client's portfolio. Along with the monitoring of current portfolio managers, we work to ensure that the best programs are always available by researching and reviewing emerging managers and funds. Based on any new information we may gather from the monitor and review step, we continue to educate and work with our clients, so that their managed futures portfolios are always working to meet their specific needs and goals.
